The mission of the Miami Springs Elderly Services Department and its attendant services and activities is to improve, maintain and enhance the quality of life for older citizens of this community through the operation of the city’s senior center. In keeping with planned area and statewide goals to help ensure a life with dignity and maximum independence for older persons, this department provides a comprehensive and coordinated system of services. Core services and activities currently offered include: nutritious congregate lunch meals served daily; a limited number of daily home-delivered meals for frail, homebound citizens; adult education seminars scheduled each month; computer access to the Internet for seniors; chair exercise fitness classes; nutrition counseling and educational workshops; health support screenings and programs; limited transportation and shopping assistance; recreational and social activities; screening and assessment of needs; and information and referral assistance. In addition, networking with AARP and other organizations enables the Elderly Services Department to provide annual tax preparation assistance, oil and acrylic painting classes, ““Computer Basics for Senior Citizens”” classes, Mature Driver Courses, special health screenings, field trips and other activities at the senior center. The Miami Springs Senior Center, located in the "Field House" on Prince Field at 343 Payne Drive, is open Monday through Friday from 9:15 a.m.--5:15 p.m. Local residents, age 60 and over, are invited to participate in the activities and services offered at the center. A variety of educational, recreational, social, and health support opportunities are provided in an attempt to meet the needs and preferences of older citizens.
